History of Thompson Career Campus

The vision for a Thompson Career Campus was articulated by Thompson School District Superintendent Dr. Marc Schaffer. Dr. Schaffer envisioned a campus designed to expand options, partner with business/industry to fill skilled jobs and enhance, grow, and provide opportunities for students to become - career, college, and community ready. The superintendent felt that career and technical educational opportunities were important for meeting the needs of all students in the Thompson School District. From these two central ideas and with the support of the Thompson School District Board of Education and the community, the Thompson Career Campus became a reality.

Career and Technical Education

Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs prepare students to enter the workforce with the academic and technical skills needed to compete successfully in our global economy and local job markets.

CTE prides itself on having a career readiness focus; as a result, all CTE programs include theoretical and work-based learning components. Work-based instruction in a hands-on learning environment is at the heart of technical education. CTE aims to produce graduates with a complex blend of job-related and academic skills that effectively lead to employment. CTE programs place a heavy emphasis on preparation for work. Students who participate in coursework will be required to engage in a Work-Based Learning experience at the end of or during their two-year pathway experience at the Thompson Career Campus.
